I grew up in the 1960’s and 1970’s and spent a lot of time absorbing the great music of those decades, and earlier decades.

My first job during high school was in a record and stereo store, the long defunct Kelly’s Stereo Mart on Yates Street in downtown Victoria, British Columbia. Working in a record store gave me exposure to a lot more great music and, being a music fan, I was unable to resist using my employee discount at Kelly’s Stereo Mart, giving back a significant portion of my employment earnings to the store in exchange for a large record (vinyl LP’s for those unfamiliar with the term) collection.

In later years I continued to indulge my music collecting habit, accumulating shelf upon shelf of CD’s, DVD’s and vinyl.

The idea for this website came one night during my days driving public transit buses.

One night at a suburban mall, a fifteen year guy wearing a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt got on the bus.

That T-shirt caught my attention. I bought my first JImi Hendrix album (Are You Experienced) in 1970, when I was 13, so I was younger than this guy when I started listening to JImi Hendrix and buying his albums.

So I asked him about his Jimi Hendrix T-shirt. Why, I asked him, was he listening to music that I was listening to and buying when I was younger than he was.

His answer was memorable. “Today’s music,” he said, “is total crap. The old stuff is way better.”

I completely agreed with him about that so we got talking about 1960’s and 1970’s music. I suggested several albums he should listen to if he liked Jimi Hendrix and wanted to hear more from that era.

About a week later he got on the bus again, thanked me for the album recommendations and asked me for more. It turned out that he, in turn, had put some of his friends onto the album recommendations I had given him and now he had a new reputation at his school as someone who knew good music.

I saw him occasionally over the next year or so and each time he boarded the bus he asked for more music recommendations, which I gave him. That  got me thinking that there must be more people like him out there who might be interested in my music recommendations.

This website is my way of trying to address that. I hope you like it.
